WHAT: Celebrate the Unruh Building and Capitol Fountain Renovation

WHERE: Jesse Unruh (Treasurer’s) Office Building, 915 Capitol Mall, Front Steps
Preservation Sacramento and the California Capitol Historic Preservation Society (CCHPS) are hosting a celebration and tour of the newly renovated Jesse Unruh (Treasurer's) Building and Capitol fountain. The fountain has not operated since the mid-2000s and is now fully functional, drawing numerous tourists, wedding parties and residents for photos. The Treasurer's building has been in need of renovation for many years. With this renovation completed, the nationally registered Capitol Extension, will provide government services for another 100 years.
(The Unruh Building, Capitol Fountain and Library and Courts building were designed for the expansion of the State Legislature 1928 and are an iconic civic landmark, located in front of the historic 1870s Capitol and east end of Capitol Mall, between 9th and 10th Streets.)
The press event will include speaker Treasurer Fiona Ma, who will recognize the great renovation job overseen by the Department of General Services, and Councilmember Phil Pluckebaum.
Alfred Eichler, Architect & Artist, A Jane Jacobs Walk (Registration Required)

The Sacramento Art Deco Society will give a 90-minute tour of downtown buildings designed by Alfred Eichler (1895-1977) senior designer in the California State Architect’s office between 1925 and 1963. Eichler is best known as the designer of the Tower Bridge. Images of Eichler’s work as an architectural draftsman, plein air painter, and sculptor will also be presented.
The tour begins on the west steps of the California State Capitol at 1315 10th Street and will be a 1.25 mile loop. The closest parking lot is at the City of Sacramento Garage at 1303 10th Street.
