Sacramento Riverfront Jane Jacobs Walk

Preservation Sacramento's penultimate Jane Jacobs Walk is a visit to Sacramento's river walk, from R Street to MOSAC. We'll begin under the shade structure on the former site of the Pioneer Box Company, roughly where Sacramento Valley Railroad, California's first railroad, began construction, and walk north along the riverwalk, through Old Sacramento, and ending in the River District at Robert Matsui Park, site of Sacramento's Hanami Line. The tour will be narrated by Preservation Sacramento president William Burg, along with Preservation Sacramento board member Luis Sumpter and historian Andrew McLeod, whose new exhibit on Sacramento Valley Railroad just opened at the California State Railroad Museum. Along the way, we'll visit other notable sites, some of which still exist and others that have long since vanished, including:
* Two bridges--one beautiful bridge, and another with a great personality
* The waterfront's Sacramento Valley Railroad--with a high possibility of trains
* A real riverboat, and a reconstructed train station that may qualify as a historic building in its own right
* New ideas executed in old buildings--and reconstructions of old buildings
* Evidence of Sacramento's lost industrial waterfront, largely in ruins
* An industrial building that was designed to look beautiful from the river, but most Sacramentans know it from its not-so-flattering rear end
* Several museum buildings--including a special opportunity to visit a just-opened exhibit at a discounted price
* Free crab--tomorrow!
