Join Preservation Sacramento at the Old Spaghetti Factory (the former Western Pacific passenger depot) for our annual Holiday Party!

This year's Holiday Party will be held in Old Spaghetti Factory's private dining room on the southern end of the building. Social hour begins at 6 PM, with dinner served at 6:45. Dinner choices are spaghetti with meat sauce or spaghetti with mushroom sauce. Spaces are limited (maximum 100) so be sure to buy your tickets now!

Western Pacific's one-story Mission Revival passenger depot, designed by master architect Willis Polk, was completed in October of 1909. The building opened for freight service on December 9, 1909, and passenger service August 22, 1910 when the first passenger train passed through Sacramento en route to Oakland. The building's main entrance faces J Street between 19th Street and the Union Pacific Railroad (former Western Pacific) tracks. The depot served Western Pacific until the end of passenger service circa 1970. Today it is the home of the Old Spaghetti Factory restaurant, an enduring example of adaptive reuse of a historic building and an iconic city landmark.

The California Zephyr was a passenger train that ran between Chicago, Illinois and Oakland, California, via Omaha, Denver, Salt Lake City, Winnemucca, Oroville and Sacramento. It was operated by three railroads; the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy (CB&Q), Denver & Rio Grande Western (D&RGW), and Western Pacific, all of which shared common ownership. The California Zephyr was dubbed "the most talked about train in America," beginning operation on March 19, 1949. Today, Amtrak operates California Zephyr trains, boarding at the Sacramento Valley Station, and construction will start soon on a new passenger depot on R Street, south of the old depot, with commuter rail service to Stockton and San Jose.
